 Street Food Asia

ALBUQUERQUE - Finally a restaurant in Albuquerque that serves Filipino food. But the opportunity to dine on Filipino food will not happen until sometime this spring.
That’s when Street Food Asia, 3422 Central Ave. SE at Amherst Street, will feature “One Night in
Manila” every Sunday. Owners Tai Tok and wife Paula Frahm will open Street Food Asia on January 31, and Asian cuisine from different countries will be standard fare on the menu. Food from Malaysia, Thailand, China, Japan and Vietnam “will be served every day,” Tok said during an interview at his restaurant.
Tok was born in Malaysia but came to the United States more than 32 years go. He brings more than 30 years of Asian restaurant experience to the business. Tok formerly operated restaurants in Denver and Minneapolis.
Some of the Filipino meals that will be on the Manila Sundays later this spring are chicken adobo with a choice of chicken or pork, lumpia, pancit bihon, fish entrees and “other common Filipino dishes,” Tok said. Besides Tok, Kenny Wang, 30, will be anchoring much of the cooking duties. “I grew up in a restaurant my parents owned since I was 5,” Wang said. Wang’s father owned a Chinese restaurant in New York City, but Wang was born in the states and grew up in Albuquerque. He was among the first graduating class of Rio Rancho High School.
In the beginning, Street Food Asia will be open Mondays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and closed on Sundays for approximately the first two months of operation. Plans for a coordinated fund- raising dinner with the Filipino American Foundation of New Mexico are being planned for the spring. For more information about Street Food Asia, please visit the Web site: www.streetfoodasiaabq.com, or call the restaurant at 505-260-0088.
